If you hear noises under you floor or in your walls then it’s likely you have an unwanted guest in your home. Rats are always looking for an opportunity to find safe harbourage, warmth and a food supply and if you have defects in your building they will take advantage of it and move in, and invite their friends and relatives! They just love to invade our homes, it’s a perfect place for rats to live and breed.
Once inside they will set up home and start to forage for food and water, they have an excellent sense of smell and will chew holes in almost anything to gain access to food. You might start to notice things going missing, rats will take almost anything edible including fruit, potatoes, sweets and meat. They’ll drag it of to a secure space and devour it.
They may chew holes in floors, kitchen units and door frames and if you’re very unlucky they’ll turn their attention to water pipes on washing machines and electrical cables which may flood your home and cause power failure.
Most of these situations are easily resolved with the correct knowledge of what to look for and how to treat a rat infestation once it has occurred.
Holes in vents on the outside walls of houses provide the perfect entry point for rats. However they always like the option of other exit or entry points as escape routes.
Fairly soon you’ll notice holes appearing on the wall line of your house, rats love digging and chewing, their teeth never stop growing so they’ll be busy making burrows and runs.
